How to Dress like a Million Bucks, Free!
How to Run Your Own Wardrobe Swap

Just imagine being able to find the perfect fit, the perfect style, and the best looking garments free...

That's the power of running a wardrobe swap.

Each season, you can host a free wardrobe swap where your friends, neighbors, or any community you belong to can clean out your closets with clothing you no longer wear, bring them to the wardrobe swap, and exchange them FREE.

In this post we'll give some tips on how you can do your own wardrobe swap.

Not only can you dress like a million bucks, FREE, you can simultaneously make more room in your closets and get rid of clutter.

By hosting a wardrobe swap, you have an extreme advantage.

You can choose the people who participate.

You have first dibs on the clothing brought to the swap.

You set the rules to make sure the wardrobe swap is precisely what you want to feature.

Wardrobe swaps can also be a fun community experience. As a host of one of these free functions, you can bring in friends and make it a fun day trying on all sorts of clothes and taking a dare (or two) to add something different to your wardrobe.

Here’s are some tips to host your own wardrobe swap:

  • Pick a location. Depending on how many people particpate, it can be done in your home, your backyard, or at a friends home. If you make it a community event, it can be done at church, or at a local community center (many community centers will allow such events free of charge, be sure to check with them first).

  • Invite a group that compliments your wardrobe swap. Do you want to do a suit exchange? If so, you will want to invite business people for the event. If you want an all around clothes swap, then you can be more broad. Narrow down your goal and invite people and groups that compliment the wardrobe swap you choose.

  • Send out invitations. Send out invitations and reminders a few weeks and a few days in advance. By doing this, you have more picks to choose from for the wardrobe exchange. Be sure to give your guests several opportunities to bring pieces of unwanted clothing in advance and to keep their calendar open on the day of the event.

  • Specify what clothes to bring for your wardrobe swap.Decide what types of clothing you want people to bring. Be sure to remind people to bring clean clothing that is in good condition. Also include any items you do not want brought to the exchange (examples: underwear, socks, old t-shirts, etc.).

  • Request clothing items as well as supplies in advance. Ask guests who are bringing clothes to also bring plastic grocery bag in advance so that each person has a bag to take home the clothing they choose. You may also want to request hangers and racks to help you with the sale. Ask for people to drop off clothing on specific days before the sale so you will have ample time to prepare for the sale. Many people will bring clothing on the day of the sale, but it's best to encourage all guests to bring them in advance to keep things organized.

  • Separate clothes into categories. This will help people find what they're looking for. Such categories can be: dress shirts, dress pants, casual shirts, casual pants, t-shirts,etc. You will also want to organize sizes from smallest to largest.

  • Once the swap is done, donate to Goodwill (or the community). Ask a couple of the guests to help you take all the remaining pieces left (after the swap) and donate the pieces once it's done.

This is a great way to make the most out of other people's wardrobe. Most everyone has several pieces of clothing that either doesn't fit quite right, or is no longer in use that others will find to be a treasure.
